Illuminated Peonies

This 20in x 20in original painting explores the contrast between deep shadow and glowing highlight. I was drawn to the way the petals seemed to shine against the darker background, and the way light catches the curves of a glass vase. The play of the warm yellows against those deep blues also caught my eye. This piece continues my exploration of light as both subject and structure. Like many of my paintings, it was an experience of how beauty can sometimes stop you in your tracks.
